Introduced prior to 1859 and still very prevalent, Gold Ball Turnips grow to 3-4" and are fairly uniform and round.  This heirloom variety is fine grained, smooth, meaty, and never woody like other turnips can be.  Gold Ball has a sweet, mild flavor and smooth skin.  It stores well and can be used at various stages of maturity.
