At Seattle Seed Company, we are dedicated to offering organic, heirloom and always non-GMO seeds in an effort to promote the general health and sustainability of our communities. The benefits of choosing to grow and consume organic products don’t end with good nutrition and health, but have a global impact, which is a message we are passionate about spreading.

As a strong proponent of supporting local communities and preserving the environment, Seattle Seed Company encourages people to buy locally and to grow their own food when possible.

Safe Seed Pledge
We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners, and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families, or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political, and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately people and communities.

Seattle Seed Co. was founded in March 2010 and is a family-owned and operated business that was started with the idea that buying non-gmo, organic seeds should be fun and easy.  Our varieties will grow in the Northwest (and in warmer climates, of course) and nothing you order from us will contribute to landfills.  All of our packaging and shipping materials will be either plantable, compostable, or 100% recyclable.  Trash is rubbish.

We sell the highest-quality seeds and will make sure you're satisfied.  There is nothing more rewarding than feeding your family with food you've grown yourself.  Gardening is a great learning experience for kids and adults alike.

We buy seeds from organic farms that have taken the Safe Seed Pledge and want to preserve the sanctity of our food supply.  A few of our suppliers have included:

  • Gathering Together Farms, OR
  • Irish Eyes Garden Seeds, WA
  • Sustainable Seed Co, CA
  • High Mowing Organics, VT
  • Natural Gardening Co, CA
  • and new farms each year as we change and increase our varieties!

We've chosen varieties that have been successfully grown West of the Cascades.  Of course, if you live in a warmer climate most any seed will grow happily.
When you buy seeds from Seattle Seed Company, you shouldn't have to worry about whether or not they'll grow.  Our seeds are tested for purity and germination, and if you ever have a problem we'll make it right!

Our seeds come almost entirely from growers in the Western states (WA, OR, ID, CA), our seed packets are printed in the USA, and the seeds are packaged in Seattle, WA!

We believe being good stewards to our environment is our civic and moral duty. Your order won't create any trash for landfills.

We've created the C.P.R. approach. This symbol is our promise that all of our products, including all shipping materials, fall under at least one of three categories:

Compostable
Once you're done this can be placed in your compost pile or your city's Yard Waste bins*.

Plantable
We use pots and containers for our seed starts that can be planted directly in the ground with your sprouts.

Recyclable
All of our packets and mailing materials can be recycled at minimum.  Your order will not create a single piece of additional garbage for landfills.*

Thanks again for your support.  We look forward to many years of working with you.

*We've made the assumption that you participate in recycling and yard-waste programs in your area.  We cannot control what you do with the things you receive from us, but only because Apple® hasn't made an app for that.**
